Assessment for Job Fit

Hiring a candidate who looks good on paper, but does not come through on the job, can cost your business both time and money. Success at work takes more than technical skills and knowledge. You need people with the right behaviors, attitudes and motivation. IQ tests and technical assessments do not tell the whole story.

Identify the candidate most likely to succeed

The research-based WorkFORCE® Assessment for Job Fit, a 20–25 minute, web-based recruiting tool, measures six behavioral competencies* associated with critical factors of workplace success. You are provided with an Expected Job Fit Indicator that indicates the candidate’s likelihood of success in the position. This score is tailored to the type of job you are filling and the behavioral skills candidates need to perform successfully in that job.

*Caring & Compassion Competency for Healthcare Organizations To ensure these behavioral competencies fit your needs, a Caring & Compassion competency is used in lieu of Customer Service Orientation for healthcare organizations.

Used in conjunction with interviews and knowledge-based testing, the Workforce Assessment for Job Fit gives you a more complete understanding of candidates, which can help you make the best hiring decisions.

How the Workforce® Assessment for Job Fit Works?

Job types include IT, Marketing/Sales, Scientific/Technical Professionals, Support Staff, Customer Service and more.

Measures key behavioral skills that predict workplace success

Get concise, easy-to-understand score reports

Shortly after a candidate completes the assessment, you will receive an easy-to-understand individual score report, which provides the Expected Job Fit Indicator as well as performance ratings for each behavioral competency. After all candidates for a position complete the assessment, you'll receive a roster report that allows you to easily compare candidates.

Scores and Reports

Shortly after a test taker completes the WorkFORCE® Assessment for Job Fit, scores are made available to you. You will have access to two types of score reports: individual and roster. Scores are valid for one year after the administration date.

Individual score reports give you a greater understanding of each candidate

The easy-to-understand Individual Profile allows you to explore a particular candidate in detail. You will find an Expected Job Fit Indicator that indicates a candidate's likelihood of success in the job, based on actual job performance of successful employees in jobs similar to the one for which you are hiring, as well as scores across the six behavioral competencies.

The Expected Job Fit Indicator ranges from 0–100 with higher scores indicating better job performance. The behavioral competency scores range from Low to High with higher scores indicating stronger performance.

Roster reports enable you to easily compare candidates

The Profile Roster Report allows you, at a glance, to compare multiple candidates on the same criteria. You will find results for a selected group of test takers, including the Expected Job Fit Indicator that indicates likelihood of success in the job and the Behavioral Competencies performance scores.

Research behind the Workforce®Assessment for Job Fit

For over a half-century, ETS test innovations have produced gold-standard global assessments, including workplace assessments such as the TOEIC® tests, which measure English-language skills used in the workplace. And since 2000, ETS has been at the forefront of advancing the field of job readiness and 21st century skills. We have initiated numerous research projects and activities targeting the labor market, collaborating with the business community, educational institutions and nonprofit organizations.

The assessment of behavioral skills is a central focus of ETS's research on job readiness and 21st century skills. Behavioral skills research, which includes understanding and validating personality factors relevant to the workplace, represents one of the important contributions we are making to both the academic literature and applied practice.

Our extensive research on the behavioral skills that best predict employee success, as well as groundbreaking methods for measuring those skills across job types and cultures, has led to the development of the WorkFORCE® Assessment for Job Fit — the next step in ETS's continuing commitment to building assessments that inform the best decisions and predict the things that matter most.

Benefits of the WorkFORCE® Assessment for Job Fit

The WorkFORCE® Assessment for Job Fit is a significant advantage over similar workplace assessments. Powered by the FACETS™ engine — an adaptive, cutting-edge assessment management and scoring system grounded in sophisticated, proven measurement techniques — this innovative recruiting tool provides a combination of features you will not find anywhere else.

  • Fast and accurate
The FACETS engine adaptively selects from a pool of personality statements and uses the response to one question to tailor the next. This means that fewer questions are needed to reach a high level of precision for more efficient testing and reduced testing time.

  • Customized by job and by country
The assessment is customized by specific types of jobs and by country, enabling you to more effectively screen candidates for a particular position.

  • Supports comparison across test takers
The engine scoring system allows you to compare scores across all candidates for a particular job, which helps you better interpret the results to inform your selection decisions.

  • Resistant to faking
The assessment’s forced-choice format — statements similar in desirability but representing different personality dimensions — is more resistant to faking than a single-statement format where the “correct” answer is easier to discern. And since the statements are selected adaptively with no “right” answers, this format reduces the need for a secure testing environment.
